Brief History
It all started in 1992 when District 5040 operated Project Kiev. When District 5040 Rotarians went to Kiev for the club charter, they saw the state of the medical facilities and decided they had to find a way to help. In 1993, the late Ted Segodnia got fellow members the late Bill Richwa and Ralph Towsley involved. Together they organized the first shipment of medical supplies and equipment to Kiev Ted, Bill and their wives went to Kiev and oversaw the distribution of the supplies.
When Bill returned home, he found more donations waiting and the supplies kept coming. Bill managed to convince the Vancouver Club to carry on the project under their international service portfolio. By 1997, the project became too big for one club to handle and Bill and Ralph realized that if the project was to survive it was time that it evolve, and, thus the Rotary World Help Network was born. In September of 1997, seven Rotary Clubs joined together and founded the network.
